Hi. I am looking for a cool piece of music for solo clarinet and orchestra. My school does a competition every year where soloists compete for the chance to play their piece with the orchestra. Does anyone know of any good clarinet solos? I`d kind of like something that`s a bit more jazzy rather than strictly classical, but I would welcome ANY suggestions for clarinet solos. Someone at this past year`s competition played Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, and that is what got me thinking. Thanks so much for your input!

In my schools most people just improvise. We might use some written music but for the most part it is made up. The easiest way I did this way I memorized the chromatic scale and a couple of blues scales now soloing is apiece of cake. Also for my proof that this works The band from UC Berkeley wants me to come there for college.
P.S you must know scales cause when it says key of Ab or E# you know what you can play.
I`m a junior and I`m just really finding this out.

Thanks for the reply. It is definitely a good idea and something I would love to learn how to do! But for this competition, it has to be a written piece of music for a solo and orchestra. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
