I play b flat clarinet, I`m not extraordinarily good, I`m pretty good. I was wondering how well you should be able to play before beginning b flat clarinet. My aunt gave me hers for free and I`d like to start. Also-are the fingerings the same?

The fingerings are exactly the same as for Bb clarinet. I would reccomend you are reaosnably proficient on the Bb (three years plus) before you invest serious time in the Eb. Because of the smaller read, the Eb is harded to play. It demands a higher degree on control with the lips muscles, or you`;ll get notes neding all over the place. Also, being higher-pitched it`s harder to get a nice mellow sound.
So, I reccomend you focus most of your energies on the Bb, but play on the Eb when you fancy a change. (As fingerins are the same, you can practice scales or simailar on either)

I play both e-flat and b-flat clarinet in my local orchestra.
I find that the only main difference is the embochure between the two. E-flat needs a tight one than b-flat.
