I currently own a Yamaha 52 and I have had trouble with cracking. I just got two cracks pinned which cost 200$ to fix and I got it fixed about a week and a half ago. Now today I notice that I have another crack-a new one! My clarinet hasn`t really been cold, so I don`t know why it`s cracking! This is the 5th crack that my clarinet has had and I`ve owned it for 5 years.

Do Yamaha`s have a problem with cracking?
How do I fix this problem?
Does anyone know where I can find a Buffet R13 for cheap, because my family doesn`t have much money and I`m sick of having a clarinet that cracks.
Or, anyone know of a slightly used Buffet R13 in TOP CONDITION that a REPUTABLE person is selling?

Please help and thanks!

I am sorry to say that I do not know anyone that is selling a Buffet R-13 for a good price, but I can say that when I got my Buffet R-13 Festival I was really pleased. I have never had a wooden one before and was not sure what it would take to play and take care of one. It has not cracked and is a good quality instrument. I would say that Buffet would be the best way to go.

I was always told from the time I had my old Buffet R13 to make sure to oil the bore by a professional every year...this helps keep the instrument from cracking along with keeping a dampit in the case...dampits are used by violinist to help with their instruments. I`ve never had my buffet R13 crack once following this regiment...still works great!

I also own a Yamaha wooden clarinet,I think it is better than the Buffet one. Mine is still in a perfect condition. I believe you have to take very good care of the instrument, keep it in the case when you are not playing, always use the swab to clean the moisture in the instrument after every time you play it. Do not expose it to vast change of temperature or humidity. Oil it with bore oil once every 3 month will also help it from cracking.
