i know how you feel... it was actually on my list of things to do before i die... w00t. now i play it at school. i paid $95 for rental for a year and any cost of repairs. i`ve already spent $91 of the schools money on repairs, so, it`s getting worth it. i use that faulty logic that states that if i make the school pay more than $95 in repairs, it`s free hahaha...

I agree, the bassoon I think is so amazing, yet I still have to wait 2 months. I`m gonna have to pay like... $350~$500 CAD for 1 school year to rent from the music store. Oh well it`s gonna be so worth it, and if I love it so much then we`ll buy a student bassoon cause it`ll probably be cheaper than chuggin in $500 every year!

cool, on thursday tell us how it went. keep in mind the first few weeks might not be that fun. don`t jump into it so quickly or you`ll get used to bad habits. take it slow and learn the bassoon the right way.

I do admit it is rather expensive-- I got a bassoon for $800 american-- mind you I took a huge risk on it! Got my uncle in Chicago to get it for me and ship it to Canada-- knowing full well that Id have to fix it up like mad! But in the end its been worth it-- Ive cleaned it up, made it look pretty and well we already knew it had an awesome tone so it turned out really well. If it means that much to you (like it did to me) save up some money-- put aside say like $40 a month if you can (if you work-- well put away more.. lol) and eventually after an extremely long time you`ll be able to afford one. Its better than renting cause you never have to return it and its just better like that. But be careful-- if youre gonna buy a bassoon make sure you really know 1)what make/model/etc. it is and 2)look it over before you buy-- not all bassoons are created equally

Naomi you are so contributive and helpful! I`d like to ask, I`m going to start bassoon really soon, and my piano teacher (also a former bassoon player and current school teacher) was saying that if I was to play for a long time, say 4 years of high school (going in next year), playing in a symphony orchestra etc., and maybe even college/university, so if I rented it every year, then it would be $500 an year... so my teacher said that I would save way more if I bought a used bassoon and resold it because her parents got hers for 3500, about 15 years ago and about 2 years ago she sold it for 3000.
Of course, I should try the bassoon for 1 year and then think, but what do you guys think?
