I don`t know, but if you really push yourself you can but it might be difficult at times because of how you hold the bassoon and flute.

The great news is, that I`m switching instruments from flute to bassoon tomorrow (hopefully)! So if anyone has anything I should be aware of, please let me know~!

Thanks!

Its actually better that you play 2 instruments like the flute with the bassoon. In my situation during high school, i started off playing the trumpet until I asked my band director if i could play the bassoon. So the bassoon became my main instrument for concert/festival season, and the trumpet was my instrument i played for pep band/marching since the bassoon isnt and "cant" be used for those given situations. So the flute will come out a handy skill to have if u have to do pep/marching band tied in with your normal band, because the bassoon is not used for it.

Taylor,

Thanks for the info. That`s what my director will let me do. Play flute for marching band and bassoon for concert season. But I want to play bassoon and flute for concert season. Do you think he will allow it?

ya, you Americans have a COMPLETELY different music system, we don`t have those bands, just 1 concert band and MOST schools tend to have a CRAPPY program (my school has a major exception)

Be warned... your director may like you on Bassoon more than flute and you may lose the choice of playing flute. I learned Oboe in high school and I was forced to play Oboe in the school musical or nothing. In the regular band I was allowed to double, but there were certain pieces where I HAD to play Oboe. I like the Oboe well enough, but I was a far better flutist.
