Hi everyone, just have a quick question...im in a chamber orchestra group playing the Baritone Saxophone, however some of the music were playing does not include a Baritone Saxophone part so theyre just having me play the Bassoon part instead...However im not quite sure how to transpose the music so it can be played on the Bari Sax (its an Eb instrument) ive heard different things from several people but havent gotten a difinitive answer, does anyone know?

Firstly, you won`t be able to play the very lowest notes of the bassoon on the Bari sax. Having a low A key would help, as it would allow you to have the low bassoon C ( but not the B and Bb below it ).
The transposing goes roughly like this:

Remember that you will have to play three keys sharper than written. If the key is C major, you`ll be playing in A major; if it`s in D major you`ll be playing B major; if it`s in Ab major you`ll be playing in F major; if it`s in D minor play it in B minor ect.

To give an idea of transposition: If you want to play the C just above the bass clef, play the A above your treble clef; If you want to play the F on the bass clef, play the D on your teble clef; if you want to play the E below the bass clef, play the C# below your treble clef.

I hope that clears things up a bit.

For bassoon parts written in bass clef, just read it as if it were treble clef, adjusting the key as in the post above.

I usually do it the other way....however, its really simple

instead of bass clef, read as though in treble, and add 3 sharps
