Hi!

I`ve been playing the bassoon for several years and I really like it! But I still don`t own my own instrument.

Well... Now I have the ability to buy the instrument of my teacher. He is a professional bassoon player and has been playing on it for 14 years in several orchestras and chamber music groups.

It`s a German Püchner bassoon, 14 years old. In 1991 he bought it for +/- 13.000 dollar and now sells it for 9.000 dollar. It`s as good as new, everything`s working. Very stable.

Is this a good price? Is it worth buying? Please could you all give me some advice?

Hi Björn,

Püchner-Bassoons are great instruments. There are a lot of professionals playing bassoons of this company. Just take the püchner and play it. If you like it, buy it.

Blessings from Germany, Martin

I do state that, I am playing a Püchner no. 23 built in 1972. So it is already 33 years old. The older Püchners, including that one your teacher owns, are great instruments. You should buy it. You won`t regret it, I am sure.

Dear Mgmansa,
You asked about the S5013 Schreiber bassoon. This is a student model that is specially designed for a younger person or a person with small hands who might not be able to reach all the keys on a regular bassoon. The body of the instrument is the same size as all other bassoons but there are special extensions on some of the keys to enable easier reaching of the these keys.
