Tongueing the Bassoon

Hello,
I`ve finally been able to start the bassoon, and I`m doing fairly good, except that the tongueing is rather painful for me. When I tongue, the reed hits my tongue and it hurts a bit, and I tried hitting the bottom of the reed but it`s also a bit difficult. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!
Riki

I never really noticed tonguing that much. When I changed to a wooden reed, I hated the wiry/woody/grainy feel of the reed, and it absorbed all the moisture from around my mouth.

I think that, whatever you do, you should keep your mouth in the proper position on the reed.

Some people have a lot of trouble with tonguing, some seem to come to it very naturally. A good site that discusses tonguing at length is www.morellibassoon.com, and go into his cyber master class, which is one of the buttons on the left hand side. He discusses ways you can see if you are doing the right thing.

Good luck!

Thanks!
I think I`m getting a bit better, considering that my tongue isn`t feeling harassed as before...
