I just noticed that my one and only bocal is bent. The bend is sooooo slight that if you weren't studying it like i was, you'd have never seen it. it's near toward where you attach the reed. how will this affect the sound? will it affect it at all?

When you say bocal, I assume you mean the crook? Sorry for being a silly brit, lol.
It shouldn't make any difference at all. Many people arrange to have their crooks (or bocals) bent to suit how they support their bassoon. For example, if you were to support your bassoon using a sling, your crook would have to point downwards slightly to ensure the reed goes straight into your mouth, and not at an angle.
However, if you play on a spike or seat strap, the bassoon stands much more upright, so a lot of people (me included) bend their crooks so it doesn't point down. Does that make sense?

Also, just thought i'd add on, I'm sure everyone knows this but just make sure that you're exremely careful if you try to bend your crook. They can be fragile, are easily snapped, and are pretty expensive. If you have any doubts about doing it, get someone else to.

Do you mean bent or slightly kinked (flattened)? If it's only a small amount it shouldn't make much difference.

the part of the bocal that is supposed to be straight slightly curves to the left, however if you really weren't examining it closely, you'd never EVER notice

oh, and since it belongs to the school, and just the bocal alone being the price it is, i won't be buying another one anytime soon, so, if it's ok, it's ok. if not, i'm stuck with it.

If it just has a gentle curve and no kink, don't worry about it.
