Hey peoples,

Ok, here's the thing. Right now, i'm playing on my school's nice Renard (just to learn to play, since it's not concert season yet). when concert season starts (on when this old mirafone gets fixed), i have to return the renard for our senior bassoonist to use. there are two of them, both who will be using renards.

My director just received an old mirafone from the middle school for me. the problem is that pads are missing, and all the notes won't play (did i mention that this is a really old, ugly instrument?) so as soon as it is put in playable condition where i won't have to do too much extra work, it's mine (did i mention that i don't want it?)

do you think that once it gets fixed, it'll be much better? or that i should just put up with it for one year (since both bassoonists are graduating in june, and i can get one of the renards back in september)? or should i rent one or something?

If the repairman do a good job, the mirafone will be an excellent instrument. I have a mirafone, and it's an excellent german bassoon. It was made by schreiber (my mirafone) Other mirafones could be made by puchner, or kreul-moosmann

I agree. Don't disdain an instrument because of some whim - fixed up it will probably be a great instrument, maybe better than the Foxes which won't have had as recent an overhaul...

Besides, if you refuse this instrument, think how your band director will feel about this. Will he feel, "O.K. here's a guy who won't make a compromise. Why should I go out of my way for him?" It could hurt you in the long run.

i'm not refusing it, i want whatever i can get, but i need one that plays. so hopefully, it'll get fixed soon, if it will be as good as you say it will.
