About sticky keys...

I find that sometimes the area where the bassoon comes close to the torso a couple of keys for the right thumb can get caught a bit which will make it harder to press those keys. I'm thinking of getting a guard installed.

I've seen that some bassoons have a guard there, alas mine hasn't... yet.

Another possibility for the sticking key - the F or G# touch piece might have got knocked & the two are rubbing together. Also F# or G# thumb keys the same.

Lol I got it fixed by Hartley (The second seat bassoon in RSO, who's also a repairman). It sounds like it was the rod.

I'm just lucky my teacher is also a reapir person. Helps a lot sometimes.

My bassoon teacher always tells me to not listen to Laurence Perkins recordings.... I have to... go over there now *grabs bassoon and runs away*

........ there are many much worse recordings around!! There is a bassoonist who has many recordings out both classical & jazz many of which have received good reviews. He was promoting his latest jazz CD about 8 miles from where I live a week or so ago, I had nothing planned for that evening but I stayed at home as did all the local bassoonists I know.

Why do they tell you not to listen to his recordings? I'd suggest you do. like Ian said, there are many worse recordings to listen to!

So far, I haven't heard any worse recordings. And I have listened to two Perkins recordings.. the notes were fine, tone quality not so much.
