I can't imagine why anyone would want to play any instrument while marching let alone bassoon - it's hard enough to play when sitting without adding complications

dude. just go for it. I tried to, but no one would let me. then I said I'll start a bassoon corps. I'm still gonna do it. It's gonna be "Heckelnova"! and it's gonna ROCK!

i played at the melbourne anzac day march, with my school military band. i used a bassoon bra and a balance hanger, and it worked perfectly. most bassoonists at my school have played in the milband. I went on tour to england last holidays with the band, but every bassoonist i met in a marching band played cymbals.

btw, can you please give me a photo of your lyre? my school gets them made specially, but they aren't very stable.

Wow, marching bassoon....thats only in my nightmares. And playing other instruments doesn't mess with your embouchure, I marched the Bass Clarinet and for Pit Orchestra I played clarinet and tenor sax....The only downside is that it took a little longer to warm up then other people. I would never want to march a bassoon though...

One of my friend's bassoons actually has the slot for a lyre, which is really odd.
