As for me, I love the Andante and Hungarian Rondo by Weber, and Concert Piece for Bassoon and Strings by Burrill Phillips....

I am working on my first jazz-style solo, Betty Boop by Chiel Maijering. It's a long crazy piece..... it has alot of quintuplet sixteenth runs in it, and it's in tenor clef.... it also has multi-tone sections in it, as soon as I master it, I will let you all know.


So what are your favorite bassoon solos?

Ummm. Well these are some that I like. My favorite is probably the Elgar (Which I'm still working on).

Yah. There are like a bazillion more. But those are some from the CD I"m listening to XD.

I do admire Mozart's bassoon concerto, mostly because he uses the "good" range of the instrument. As for others, I've said this a million times before, but Telemann's sonata in F minor is wonderful. I also hope to play Weisseborn's Romance, especially to try and hit the e-flat above the tenor clef!

ya, ok you guys are probably going to come out of your computers and smack me for not stating a clasical piece, but I love The Sorccer's Apprentice.(correct spelling? who knows. that is what webster's is for.)

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a totally legit piece for bassoon. I would consider it neo-classical or impressionistic, though.

I also like a song that I heard at Double Reed Day a few years ago.... it's literally called "Tips and Techniques on Bassoon Your Family and Neighbors Didn't Want You to Know About" it's circular-breathing required throughout, and it is a 20-min work. I have no clue who wrote it, but it is quite amusing. I used to have it recorded on my phone, and it sounded like a dying calf, with random flutter-tonguing technique in the middle, and sudden high notes..... I almost had to leave the clinic, because I couldn't stop laughing.

My favorite piece would be Marcello's Sonata in Em...I love Telemann's Sonata in F it is amazing...that is the one I'm working on right now. Allegro Spiritoso is pretty fun...I don't remember who had written it though.

and one of Telemann's 12 fantasias for bassoon. I can't remember which one it was exactly. My friend played it as a solo during our band concert, and it sounded amazing. It was one in C major, i think.

also does anyone know any kind of online store of some sort where i can buy the 12 fantasias for bassoon (sheet music)? my music store doesn't have them, i've looked online and can't find them. i wanna start learning them. maybe my teacher might have them...
