Like Hollinger to the oboe
Perlman to the violin
Zucherman to the viola
Karr to the bass

Really like the first chair bassoonist of the world

Or Dennis Brain to the French horn.......

I always say my teacher so I get some reeds from him becuase I am horrible at making them still. =p I just can't get the wrapping job to look nice.

If I could decide on the best, I would, but there's too many great guys out there playing great stuff. Depends whether you like great technique, great tone (doesn't always happen together), or what. Looks like no one else has an idea, either.

true, you can't actually say who THE best is.

but i can definitely say who my favorites are. my favorite bassoonists of whom I've heard have got to be Milan Turkovic and Dag Jensen.

Oh definitely Daniel Smith...NOT!!! I personally favor Nancy Goeres and David Sogg of the Pittsburgh Symphony, but i think Norman Herzberg is the all-time best.

I personally wouldn't say shes the best bassoonist, I think Turkovic would be up there no?

Milan Turkovic I would say as far as technique is concerned. I think best tone is subjective, but I prefer Nancy Goeres; her sound is so full and powerful, yet she is still incredibly expressive.
