I was wondering what might be wrong with my embochure when I play the bassoon. It's like after I play for 45 minutes, my cheeks feel like they're cramped up or something. I've been playing it for a year and I mostly play the bass clarinet. This is horrible because it hurts horribly and I have and honor band thing coming up next week (23rd) and I'm playing the bassoon in it.

Sorry you're having this problem. It's pretty hard to diagnose embouchure glitches without seeing someone personally. Is there any way you could get a teacher, even for 4 to 6 lessons, to get you straightened out? Is there a music store in your town that gives lessons, or a university where there might be a bassoon teacher?

But to get you through this upcoming concert, try to find ways to relax your cheeks between each piece, making faces, blowing out your cheeks, etc. As you probably know, bassoon embouchure is a lot more relaxed than clarinet embouchure, and you are probably having trouble changing from "biting" to something different. Good luck.
