Does anyone know any good excersises for finger tongue cordination? I just started a concerto with fast stacato scales that I'm having some trouble with.
Thanks!

Easy way to speed up runs is do a beat at a time. Play one beat (a triplet or whatever the run is and the next beat). Practice this up to tempo. Work through the whole run one beat + the next note (note beat, just note). Then work through the run in just 2 beat sections. Ect.

Can you play these passages cleanly without tounging? Fingers are quite often the problem rather than the tongue.
Identify difficult finger pattern changes & sort them out in isolation slowly at first then increasing speed. Gradually put the passage together & increase the speed.
The great danger is that while you are thinking about your tongue you will tense up which will slow it down. While concentrating on the fingers & tongue don't forget to keep breathing! Otherwise notes won't speak cleanly & this will add to the problems.
The answer is to be patient & the co-ordination will get there.
Good luck.

I had this same problems with an all-state audition etude. What I did was practice just moving my tongue. just go ti-ti-ti to the the ryhthm of the music. It feels weird, but it helps. Also trying practing fingering and/or tongueing without actually blowing. My teacher says something you should do is pick a scale, play the first note, and then put your tongue back on the reed while you keep blowing. Do this up the scale. I don't find it to be much of a help, but maybe it'll work for you.
