Hi,

My Daughter plays the bassoon, (studying for Grade 5) but is always complaining as there is no popular music written for the bassoon. We have heard on You Tube people playing everything from Coldpay to the Beatles but I can’t find the music for this anywhere. I assume most people are very talented and have come up with it themselves; however, I would like to buy her some music for Christmas. Can anyone give me some advice as to where I could find some modern pieces for her please? I have trawled a lot of music sites and can’t find anything and as a non musician I can’t help to write it either.

Thank you.

Have you tried June Emerson? www.juneemerson.co.uk. Mostly classical but a quick search shows one collection of Lennon - McCartney songs. Don't know what else may be there too.

If your daughter might like blues and jazz, check out http://raypizzi.com. Good luck!

Also check out Yamaha Pop-Style Solos for Trombone/Baritone B.C./ Bassoon. I haven't seen it, but I might try it for my daughter. Includes an accompaniment CD.

Grade 5 music or is she just starting and in fifth grade? It is extremely easy to transpose saxophone music on bassoon. That should broaden your searches quite a bit : )

Thanks for all the replies. To clarify she is now working towards grade 6, as opposed to being in the 6th grade. Hope that makes sense!

There's a difference in terminology here.
The Grade 5 here refers to the Associated Board music exams in UK. Nothing to do with 5th grade school - which means nothing to this guy on the Eastern side of the Atlantic.

You can also try searching for cello music. Like the bassoon, the cello is a C instrument in bass clef, and the two instruments have a similar range.

You might also check out "Movie Favorites-Bassoon" and "Film Favorites-Bassoon" from Hal Leonard. (I haven't seen these.)
