That is interesting, the whole strap thing. My arm got tired when I first started playing but then my arm got stronger and not so tired. If I play for a long time I do get tired. Did you play anything before bassoon Naomi?

By the way, I only read the first two posts. And with that... Your band director does not care about you! Your band director does not want you to drop your bassoon and destroy your $5,000 instrument! Period, well exlamation mark, but whatever.

yeah, with the whole marching bassoon thing. i really want to do marching band next year, and i didn`t even know that marching with a bassoon was a possibility (i`ve always used a seat strap). i would think that it`d be really hard. the two oboes that were in my band last year just took up the saxaphone so they could do marching band. that`s what i`m thinking of doing. but i couldn`t really think of what instrument i would want to take up. probably woodwind (i wonder if i could do percussion), cuz i don`t have the right embochure for brass. any suggestions?

To Naomi I totally agree with you in the whole it`s hard to find the position with a "butt" strap because I can`t really use them right, I find it hard to sit through a 45 minute rehearsal with one regardless of a 2 hour concert. Emily maybe you just don`t use the neck strap right.

This is the stupidest thing i`ve ever heard. I personally am glad that the bassoon can`t march. I would hate marching band and even if it could would never join. when our marching band performed at region it rained like no other and the band ended up marching in about a foot of mud. all their instruments got covered in mud as well as marching uniforms. besides the bassoon would only get to play underlying bass notes.

the bassoon is a truly proud and noble instrument, and if you fail to realize that.. well .. maybe you should just look harder. The bassoon does not just get underlying bass notes, tell that to the 500 people who got to listen to me play a bassoon solo... tell that to my conductor who cried when I played the piece at graduation.

Bassoons can march.. whether its good for them I dont know. Ive played the bassoon in the snow.. in -12 degree whether on a float for a parade, so.. it cant be totally bad.. the bassoon I had is totally fine too.

Finally, if youre going to post on here... remember.. this is a bassoon board.. not an anti-bassoon board. If you dont want me to plaster the flute boards with how much I hate flutes, or the clarinet boards with how much I hate clarinets.. or any other board with how I hate that instrument please, dont post something that you know very little about and above all.. dont diss the bassoon.. it is a truly proud and noble instrument

lets say this much....lets not march bassoon. Bassoon is way too good and too awesome to be marched in a marching band...join pit. I did that this year. I love my bassoon way too much to be sent out into the horrid world of marching band...in the sun, weird weather...and so much more. Why someone would mess with the bassoon to transfigure it to marching i`ll never know. dont do it, save teh bassoon and you director money
