I am curious about Polisi bassoons. I know that Mr. Polisi patented improvements to the bassoon and had some bassoons made by Schreiber (I believe). I have also read that Yamaha incorporated some of his features into their designs.
Does anyone make bassoons now with his improvements? What sort of reputation do Polisi bassoons have?

Polisi bassoons haven't been produced for a number of years now.
IMO his idea for the half hole vent system for left index finger was not an improvement. It may appear to make life easier but the reality is that for optimum results the player will adjust the opening for every note that requires a 'half hole'. which varies from only open a crack to almost fully open.

Thanks for your reply.
So, then, what do you think about the Weisberg system? How effective does it seem to be? Does it make the bassoon sluggish?
