Hello,
I`m a college sax major looking to take up some doubles. I know bassoons are expensive, but what are my chances of getting a junker bassoon for around $200? My college only has a couple, and they`re constantly being used by woodwind methods people, and the nearest music store (not very near at all) doesn`t have any bassoons to rent. Do any of you have a junker bassoon you`d be willing to part with for cheap? Please email me at eulipion2 AT yahoo DOT com, replacing AT with @ and DOT with .
Thanks,
Rick

Even on Ebay its never gonna happen for $200.. if you can find one for 200.. tell me.. but it`ll cost you more than its worth.. cause.. with all the repairs you`ll have to do.. not a very inexpensive thing. Im still looking for one to call my own

Face the facts, my friend.

You won`t find a bassoon for only $200! Especially since my clarinet costs $800. I am a beginner and my plastic Fox bassoon set me back about $4800! Not even Ebay has them that cheap. All I can say about bassoon if you are attending a school (like i am) and your instructor has instruments to use, use them (i am using it for free, though some schools may have rental charges), or rent a bassoon for a store. However, if you rent one, expect to pay a minimum of $60 a month for a plastic or $150 for a wood! Personally, I`d recommend fox plasics because of their quality and affordability.

if you spent 4800 on a plastic bassoon then you where way overcharged. I`ve seen some on ebay for around 200 so keep ur hopes up and check ebay every once and a while.

The Fox Model III bassoon sells in the 4-5000 dollar range. This is basically a plastic version of the Model II which sells for about 12000 in wood.

all i know is i would never buy a plastic bassoon. Sound quality on a wood bassoon is just so much better. i would never spend that much money on a plastic one.

I found a bassoon on ebay for 400 or 500 or something but it was all dead-ish and dying. OMG, the band rental store in canada (where I live) charge around 400~600 per school year to rent a bassoon! It must be wood or something or it must be those yamaha ones that cost 12000 dollars. Anyways, I`m planning to pick up a bassoon for next year.

www.wwbw.com

You can`t find one for $200 - but they finance and have really low prices on the bassoons they have.

Good luck my friend.

I think I`ve found the bassoon you`re talking about bassoondude, but it`s bidded at $280 US so that doesn`t mean the price is actually 280... Plus it still has 2 days left so there is a chance of going higher in price. It does look like a pretty nice bassoon, the pictures show detailed parts, though I don`t know too much about bassoons, just a few points to look when buying.
