Does anyone know about these bassoons? How do they play? Quality? Keywork? Anything you know would be very helpful!! Thanks for your time!!

Stay away. I heard they use green wood, so in a year or two all the keys will fall off when the wood warps.

I am a German non professional bassoon player. I started playing the bassoon 18 years ago and played in some different amateur-orchestras and wind quintett, octett and bassoon quartett. Amati bassoons are build in Tschechoslowakei, and in europe they are the most cheapest bassoons. They not really nice. Don`t buy!

They are not so bad, i use to play an old amati made in Kraslice (Graslitz auf deutsch). Its higher register was not the best but the lower register was quite rich and the middle register was very easy to play, it was about 40 years old when i sold it and no the keys didnt fall off and the wood didnt warp! I think they are more than suitable for a younger less professional performer.

I play one at the moment because I get my lessons through my school so it`s owned by the county. I think they only bought it because it was the cheapest. Things do tend to fall off though. The bridge connector thingy from my long joint fell of and a friend of mine with an Amati has had the High D key break off. So yeah bad idea.

why don`t you try to take care of your instrument, then it wont break.

i used an amati several years ago for several years, and i never had 1 problem with keys breaking. It is much sturdier than the proffessional fox i have now, because the amati has extra peice of metal on it to hold rods in a tighter space, therefore lowering the chance of breaking the rod, which would only happen if you dropped it.

I`ve played on TWO new Amati`s - both were junk. And yes, I took care of them the best I could. I had a MUCH better experience with the Fox 601 I played in college. I never had a key fall off, a piece break off, or a bocal turn colors with that instrument.

well OBVIOUSLY you ahd a better experience with Fox 601 , lol its three times the price!!! Amati`s do NOT tend to have any of the problems stated, only the high register isnt as nice as a F. Renard, but they still dont even compare in price. I`d get one if I was on a budget (which i am lol)
