Hey bassoonists

I`m writing something at the moment - just had a technical question. It`s an orchestral bassoon part, opening with a long pianissimo trill from G to Ab (below middle C). The trill would be far too long to hold on its full duration, so I am going to have to split it between two players. However, I would like it to be as continuous as possible. How long would it be possible to play this for continuously?

thanks!

20 seconds, maybe more, maybe less, depending on the setting and the bassoonists.

Hi, I have no experience on bassoon even though I`m planning to play it next year, Why don`t you check up on circular breathing? It probably won`t help since it needs a lot of practice I hear, and it`s probably not what you`re supposed to do on it, but give it a try maybe if you want to, there`s a thread in here near the end of the page and one person talks about how to do the breathing

Thanks! trouble with circular breathing is that, you can`t count on everybody being able to do it...I suppose I could write a note in the score though just in case, as an ossia or something.

good practice is two measure trade off if in common time.

BTW - Most players can last 16 beats at 1beat=72 at a mp/mf

if dynamic is louder, shorter amount of time on the holds

if note is in lowest register, shorter amount of time too.
