Hey, I am an oboe player, and I have played for 5 years. I also play the flute & piccolo and sax. I want to learn the bassoon. My sister used to play the bassoon and she has a really good fox i can use and either her or a friend of mine will teach me. I want to play the bassoon for fun and for college maybe..(scholarships??? lol) anyway, I would like any comments or helpful advice. And should I pick up the bassoon?

Its gonna be a bit fo challange. But good choice, I`ll say that.
You need around 4 years of constant, focused pratice to get decently good on the Bassoon. I have been playing for 4 years, and I`m pretty good, in my huble opinion.

I say, if you have around 2-3 years or more (preferably) of time to learn the Bassoon, then go for it. A year is a strech, i doubt its possible. Then again, I dont your persistenmce and how long you have.

No matter what, you should try, as you have the bassoon avaliable.
