Sorry im not a basson player, but gig bags? Are those like the soft ones for saxophones? If so, then it would be best NOT to use any soft case, they really don`t offer enough protection. I should know; my soprano has a very bent neck that cost $100 to bend back, With a patch on it, and is increadibly fragile now, I had to get a alto case custoum made for it so that no pressure would be on the neck. Hope I helped!

also for a bassoon a bocal is much more expensive and much more delicate when it comes to being bent in any way

Never said we threw them around. Sh*t happens. Kindof like I know this guy, and when he was treveling with a Rock band, and one night, this dude backed up into his mark Vi bari... he cried. It took months to put back together. phew!

Kim Walker gig bags are great.
They keep the bassoon secure and many college students use them if they travel by bicycle to campus.
If you`re looking for a backpack like carrying case that fits over the hardcase check out Alteiri.
They custom make it to your hardcase dimensions.
