I`ve been playing the piano part to the Will and Grace theme tune for a while now, but it`s been bugging the life out of me what percussive instrument is being played alongside this in the background. Does anyone know what it is, and possibly where I`d be able to find what beats it plays on etc? Thanks a lot.

Those percussive instruments you`re talking about are conga drums. The rhythm that they play in the Will and Grace theme song is just basically sixteenth notes accented on the off-beats. If you were transcribing it, you wouldn`t have to get the accents exactly right, because it wouldn`t sound that different. I found a short wave file to give you an idea of what I mean.
