Hey i`ve been playing the yamaha fife (7 holes) and i was wondering if anyone new where i could get some sheet music to Iron Man or any toher songs like that, because i wanted to do something different for competition this year. Oh ya i`m in a military fife and drum band in Ontario, Canada. If anyone knows of a site please email me back.

whoa, so Moore, your in the military playing the fife? thats awesome!! I didnt know they had a fife and drums in the military. How long have you been playing in it? If you go to www.sheetmusicplus.com over to the left side you will see where you can type oin the name of the song u want, of course it will be for piano and vocals so you have to click the in the "menu" and find instruments. then type in fife. It is in a orange box so you cant miss it. you can get some free previews too. But im not sure how good the songs are.

does anyone here play the sax too??

I bought a fife a few months ago, but can only play one song.

I am getting pretty good with the fife. Very fun and addictive. I can play alot of tunes now. The notes are very clear and very very loud. It takes a little practice to get it sounding right but when you do you will no for sure. Some of the tunes I am playing now include Dixie. I can even hit the high B. I am also playing Stonewall Jacksons Way, Girl I left Behind, Yankee Doodle, Bonnie Blue Flag, Stonewall Jacksons Way, Battle Hyme of the Republic, Minstril Boy, Yellow Rose of Texas, Ed Kellogs Quikstep,Ole Susanna, Camp Town Races and a few others.

I am still looking for fifers and drummers in Southern Va. to play Civil War tunes.

7 Holes? Are you counting the embrouchure hole? Mine has six finger-holes. I love to play my fife, but all my music is Rev-war related. Anyone know where to get some good Christmas music or something?

It was shipped today so I do not know what tunes are in it. I have the Fifers Delight book and it has jingle bells. I can play Come all ye faithfull and Joy to the world by ear pretty easily. Give that a try. I can play most of God rest ye merry gentalmen ( an old english carol) as well. I am looking forward to getting my christmas book!

Hey I have a fife I picked up at Colonial Williamsburg...it says its a folk B flat pitch (the lowest note is a D). I`ve never played any other wind instruments, and was wondering if anyone has tips for getting the lower notes to sound, particularly with more fingers covering holes. Also, any tips for how to blow differently for the higher pitches? Thanks!

Sure I can help you. Go to www.beafifer.com and listen to the sample tutorial. It will answer all your questions you mentiond there. I learnd pretty much from the sample he has on his website. After learing how to get good sound I learnd the scale and how to read the music. Now I can play over 30 songs by memory. I have only been playing for a VERY SHORT TIME. I do practice everyday for a couple of hours through out the day. I did get the full tutorial from my nephew though. It is very good. I recommend you get it. I have been playing songs from Complete Music for the Fife and Drum, Fifers Delight, American Veteran Fifer and Bruce and Emmetts. I am currently trying to memorize the complete camp duties from Bruce and Emmetts.

I just got a fife from Washington, I quit band about 7 months ago (I graduated). I played the oboe, english horn, french horn, and flute. I`m trying to learn how to play the fife because I miss making music.

I play da clarinet and da bassoon and yesterday i found a fife in our organ stool at home. I was wondering how much do new 1s cost and is ur emboucher any different from the flute or piccolo? Coz i`ve played both of those (my friend taught me) Can anyone please answer any of these questions?

Fifes can range in price greatly. For example I have 3 fifes. My first fife is a SweetHeart Colonial Fife made of rosewood. I think I paid about 80 dollars for it. My second and favorite fife is the model f fife. It is made of grenadilla. It cost 104 dollars. My third fife and a very good fife indeed is my black plastic fife which costs about 8 dollars.

From what I have been told the maple and persimon fifes are pretty hard to play so stay away from them all together.

Someday I wish to get an original Civil War fife and I expect to pay 150 to 200 dollars.

For those wishing to start learning the fife I recomend the black plastic fife. For those of you wanting a a very good more expensive wood fife I highly recommend the model f fife.
