Hi,

I was wondering is there a program that lets you type in a piece of music and then it will play it back as it should be. Or would this be too much to ask and too expensive. I was wondering because my son is just learning and when he asks he comes to me I play it and then off he goes. But if I had a program he could just type in the piece listen to it and off he goes again, without the hassle of waiting for me if I am not there etc etc..

hi. i dont have a clue if there is a program that allows you to do that BUT i did see on tv once this guy who wrote his own songs and he just played it and the computer wrote it all down for him. that`s no help whatsoever is it?!? sorry. ask at a computer shop is my advice. lol

There is software that allows you to enter the music notation and then it plays the music back. Depending on how complex the music is, the software can range in price from fairly inexpensive to very expensive. Unfortunately, it does take more time to enter the musical notation into the software program and run it than it does to play it or write it. Musical notation is a bit like some printed languages. There are so many characters and variations, that affordable computer programs only contain the very basic (most used) notation. Actually, many music publishers still use Music Calligraphers as they are faster, more accurate and ultimately cheaper.

An alternative might be to purchase music cds with the pieces on them or encourage your son to learn sight-singing (sight singing is always a bonus for any musician and it is fast becoming a lost art).
