Wondering what others think is the easiest instrument to learn....I am 58 years old and would like to pick up a hammered dulcimer but don't want to if it's horrendously hard. I had thought of a harp but it looks like it may be hard. Just want to do it for my own pleasure....I have played the piano years ago so I can read music etc.....Bernie

The easiest thing to do is pick back up on piano. People say that learning the piano helps you to learn almost every other instrument. I personally enjoy the piano more than any other instruments I played because it was comparatively easy (plus, there is no guess-work for fingering; the keys are in plain sight). Good luck with picking up on an old instrument, or a new one .

i was about to recomend a guitar, but after reading their replies i changed my mind. i think a piano is better if you want to learn fast.
guitar is also good but you are more experienced in piano.

good luck!

I see that a couple of you had recommended a piano but that really is not of interest to me. I have thought of a guitar but again seem to lean to a hammered dulcimer. Is a guitar that much easier? Anything else you would suggest? Thanks for all your suggestions and help

I recently just seen what a hammered dulcimer looks like, and it does not look terribly difficult to play. As a matter of fact, I think I would recommend it as a fairly easy to learn instrument.

I agree with go with what you like but the dulcimer is terribly easy. Remember though, if you have your heart set on it, you could be playing some sort of crazy jazz trill thing on a slide trumpet (though I think that's impossible), if you just practice.
