I`m new to learning the piano, and I`m wondering if someone could explain to me what the difference is between minor and major. Also, where do you place your hands for D minor? And lastly, is Coldplay`s "The Scientist" played in D minor? Thanks for your help!

The chord D minor is played by putting your fingers on the notes D,F,A. Songs in minor keys tend to sound `darker` and `sadder` than pieces in a major key. When you play a major chord and then play the minor chord, the middle note is lowered by a semitone. That wasn`t explained very well, so I`ll give you an example. If you play Dmajor, you play D,F#,A. Then if you play Dminor, the F# is lowered a semitone to F natural. Hope this makes sense. It probably doesn`t, but I tried!

Just a note, because I don`t know how to explain either.
If you play F-Major scale, then you play D-minor scale.
An equal minor scale is three semitones lower than the major scale.
Darn...I didn`t explain that very well either.

Anyhow get back to me if you like.
