I have a CG Conn 444N clarinet that I would like to sell. It still plays great and is in good condition (except for two minor surface cracks in the barrel. They do not penetrate the inner chamber). I am the only owner and played semi-professionally in the early 1950's before joining the military. It has seen very little use since that time. Does anyone have an idea what it is worth in todays market? I have seen overseas prices over $1200 and eBay prices around $250. At $250 I would put it back in the closet.

Depending on the type it is (student, intermediate,or professional) it could go for anywhere between $80 and $2,000

This is considered to be the best clarinet made by CG Conn (in 1958 the company was sold and The "CG" was dropped from the company name per agreement with the widow of the previous owner). The 444N was the preferred clarinet of the late great Artie Shaw, probably because it was a "large bore" clarinet.
It is the only clarinet with the CG Conn inlay in he bell. So, I guess it could be considered professional.

So probably worth $1,500 or more.

Bobhar, I am interested in making an offer. Send any pictures you have to metsnation@gmail.com. Please also send the amount that you would want to sell your Conn 444n. I have been looking for one of these for almost a year now.

Hello,
I'll take some pics over the weekend and forward them to you. Let me know if you also want a mouthpiece with the instrument. It originally came with a CG Conn Steelay mouthpiece which has never been used. I used a Brillhart mouthpiece with good results and is in excellent condition. I have other mouthpieces, so let me know if you want either one (or both) (or neither)since that will have a slight influence on the price.
When I was active in the music business, I was frequently complimented on the rich lush sound I got from this horn.

I have taken 7 pics of the CG Conn 444N clarinet, but don't know how to attach them to a reply in this forum. If you contact me at my e-mail address I can attach them to an e-mail reply. My e-mail address is: bobhar1@verizon.net

I would be very interested in the Steelay mouthpiece that came with your 444. I have a Steelay #5 with my 444 and need another for my 464N 39 model. Let me know if you want to sell it to me and the amount.
Thanks. Waymon

At the moment I have a prospective buyer for the 444 and I have included the Steelay in the offer. However will keep it in mind. I also have a Selmer "Goldentone" of the same era.

Robert: Thanks for the reply about the mouthpiece. I saw in the above messages that clarinetman33 was interested. I got an e-mail from him about my interest in the mouthpiece. If he might take your clarinet without the Conn mouthpiece just let me know. Thanks so much. Oh yes, I have a Goldentone (Cream Color) If you need it - I will let it go. Waymon

Wymon,
Please contact me via e-mail (bobhar1@verizon.net) re. the Steelay mouthpiece. I am now going to offer my 444 for sale with other mouthpiece options so we can probablly do business on the Steelay.
