Trumpet?

I'm a clarinet player and I'm going to purchase a trumpet in a month. Right now I'm just looking for anything to help me get to know this instrument well. I was kind of wondering is is hard to play the trumpet? I have two friends who have recently tried trumpet, they said that it's really hard and that it really hurts. Is it like that in the beginning, will it be easier for a clarinet player than for maybe flute players or are the abilities to play this instrument the same for all instruments?

It would probably be easier for a clarinet player. I say give it a try. You may fall in love!
Good luck

I played clarinet for a while before switching to French Horn, (I am now learning trumpet as well) - the general theory for brass instruments is the same so I should be able to offer some advice.

Compared to F Horn, trumpet is EASY, I'm loving it! Compared to clarinet, trumpet is different, but not necessarily harder. Some people are just natural at brass instruments, others really struggle. I found the most difficult thing about brass in the beginning, was switching embouchure's from clarinet to brass.

The trumpet itself takes alot more air than the clarinet, especially in the higher octaves, but the fingerings for instance are REALLY easy compared to the clarinet.

I've sent you a PM, if you want extra help

one thing bad about this is, trumpet and clarinet embrochure are so different you are gonna be sacrificing one instruments tone for the other, the hardest part about switching by yourself, is getting the trumpet embrochure just right, there are many ways that "WORK" but really you need to get the embrochure right or you will be losing out on a lot of tone and range.

Thanks! I really do hope that I won't have to sacrifice one instruments tone for another, but I guess what ever happens happens!
