Taking place from Tuesday 27 – Saturday 31 August 2013, this course presents a unique opportunity for musicians and educators to develop and study collaborative workshop-leading skills and creative ways of communicating though music in diverse participatory contexts.
Music leaders of the 21st century are required to fulfil many roles - as leader, conductor, collaborator, improviser, composer and educator. This new five-day summer school will equip you with skills to aid and support effective workshop leading and collaborative music making.
Classes include: Improvisation, collaborative composition, percussion skills (drawing on traditions from around the globe), harmony, leadership and conducting, with sessions led by inspirational artists.
The course will be taught by Barbican/Guildhall’s Creative Learning tutors Tim Steiner, Detta Danford and Natasha Zielazinski. Tim has extensive experience working as a workshop leader and trainer for companies such as The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra and BBC Singers and has directed works for the London Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among many other orchestras. Detta and Natasha are co-founders of Jetsam and have collectively worked for organisations such as the Hofesh Shechter Company, Aldeburgh Music, the Royal Conservatoire of Music in the Hague, Yong Siew Toh Conservatoire, Roundhouse and Wigmore Hall.
