Hi,

I was wondering if the Alto Saxophone has very good parts in the music, In A Gentle Rain and Into the Storm, both by Robert W. Smith.

Would you recommend In a Gentle Rain for a concert band? Are there enough parts in the music for the band? Is there an Alto Sax solo in this music? I heard a recording of it and I thought I heard an Alto solo at the end, but I`m not sure.

If anyone owns these pieces of music, could you scan me a copy of the Alto parts so I can see how difficult it is?

Any responses needed!

Thanks!

I`m actually doing In a Gentle Rain now, and yes, I think it`s great for a concert band (which is what I have). The alto sax part isn`t very involved, though (only 8 measure of actual playing). It is written for first and second altos, but they both play the same part, so don`t worry if you don`t have to many saxes. Send me your e-mail address if you want me to send you a copy of the alto sax part.

Carla,

Wow! 8 measures isn`t much playing at all! What instrument mainly has the solos in In a Gentle Rain? Do you by any chance have the flute part? If you have the flute part, can you send it to me along with the Alto Sax part?

Thanks!

Jonathan

Hello, Johnathan. I am a student who recently played Into the Storm. For the intro, saxes have a rather interesting part, along with the trumpets and other brass. Following this part is an interesting section for the flutes and xylophone and clarinets. Next part freatures mainly the entire band. The middle, which can be referred to as the "eye of the storm", being as it is much calmer than the part before. The first half of the middle (i know its confusing) is brass, and the second half is woodwinds. After the "eye of the storm" is gone, you basically play the same thing as the beginning. Sadly, I don`t have any copies of the music, but at least you know now!
