well of course we can all agree that every single instrument gets equally hard (iunno, someone said it was like at grade 5) but certain instruments get harder faster htan others... because of so many things to master before learning how to play as fast as the other instruments. violin is easy to start, but by grade 5 when the stuff gets quite hard, and you need really good technique to play, most other instruments will have to move that fast as well. so it all balances out don`t you think? at that point all instruments are equally as difficult...

don`t get me wrong, th violin has it`s difficulties... it`s just that it`s not THE hardest instrument so they didn`t really need mentioning... and i was getting prety bored of typing every single instrument`s pros n cons...

violins-
pro: quite easy to start, although starting to bow is difficult b/c it`s weird to get used to bowing. no need to breathe to create sound.
con: you can`t really see exactly where to place the fingers, since there are no llines like on a guitar. so it might sound a bit sharp or flat if ya don`t have good ears (i don`t lol). the violin, because of how it is played, is capable of playing extrmely fast. this is a disadvantage to the violinist because the fingers must move extremely fast as well as the bow...

correct me if i`m wrong though. i`m no expert at all the instruments.

out of all the instruments i`ve played, the bassoon would be the hardest. i mean, getting sound out of the thing is REALLY easy, in fact, it requires even less air than a clarinet (yea, u heard me right) but the thing is, the fingers must be really fast, especially the thumbs in the lower register...

The thing about playing fast on the violin is coordinating the fingers and the bow. If they don`t move at the same time, it just sounds one huge mess. I don`t know if it`s me, but does anyone else have this problem? And I squeak for no apparent reason and it is especially hard to play in tune when you get too high. But maybe, as I said, that`s just me and lack of practice.

oh yeah, and violins might be asked to play two notes at a time. most instruments don;t have to do that.

Im thinking of taking up the Violin.
At the moment i just play purcussion (Drums) and im getting quite good. it`s an easy instrument to start on though it starts to get harder when you get into four way coordination (playing different things with all four limbs). my mum has an antique violin that she sais i can have if i seriously want to play it.

Taking up the violin is a good idea if u already have one at home. I have to say though its pretty easy to start on. But can you (Benji) read music if you play the drums?

Whoever says the violin is not hard to play or is easy either doesnt play a string instrument or is lying. There are nothing telling the player where to pur their fingers on the fingerboard, bowing takes years to fully master all the tecniques and vibrato and all the other stuff makes it even harder. Whoever says there is nothing hard about string instruments is stupid. Not many instruments can play 3 notes at once, can they?

Violin really isnt that hard to get going with. No frets on the fingerboard is a good thing it just takes geting used to. Stringed instruments arent easy, but Id have to say oboe and most brass instruments are more difficult.

I vote for bagpipes. They are a mystery to me...

I`d say the hardest instrument award is a toss up between piano and violin.
Piano is much more technical then violin, while violin is much more precise.
I`d say its a matter of who is playing the instrument.
But definitely, piano and violin are the two hardest to master. Depending on the person one would be harder then the other.

well, I play the guitar, cello, violin, piano, sax, and the penny whistle.

out of those right there, I would have to say definately cello, then violin, piano, whistle, then sax.

I have also played brass before, and the flute, and oboe.

but the hardest I still have to say is the hardest. although it is easier to get vibrato on the cello then it is on the violin. but it is a lot harder to master the cello, on the account of its range, the fact that theres a lot more neck to work with, and you still need to move quite fast( just listen to bachs 6 cello suites) needless to say all the strings are difficult, and in my opinion are more difficult then then the winds. sax and clarinet are easy, oboe is actually pretty hard, but not as hard as the strings. brass are difficult to get a nice, pure sound out of, but still not as hard as the strings. believe it or not, the penny whistle may be easy to strike a few tunes on, but its a whole different animal when it comes to mastering it(along with the fife and other six holed small winds that ppl think are little kid starter instruments).
the guitar may have frets, and may be easy to start, but it is quite the instrument to learn well, especially finger picking. It is also a lot harder to move fast on the guitar then it is for say... a violin. The piano is easy to start(most lil kids can pick out a tune in 10 min.) but It isnt a walk in the park to master. the big fat con to learning the piano is learning to read treble and bass staff at the same time, but when get experience and try and look at it as one bigger staff instead of 2 staves it isnt so cumbersome. bagpipes are difficult, but i was able to play it quite well in the week i borrowed it from my friend for the sole reason of seeing how hard it was.I have to admit I have never played a set of drums, so I have no opinion on them.

I believe that all instruments can be placed in no order of difficulty. Why? Because if you think about it, the only reason a Piano is considered hard to play is because you have to read two staves at the same time, it involves alot of wrist movement, you have to follow pedalling rules and really study technical exercises. But then The Reed Organ has several pedals that are used at different times and you have to use both the front end of your foot and your heel. However, it`s not just the Keyboard instruments that are difficult. The Violin, Violincello, Flute, Bassoon, Guitar or even the Bagpipes all consist of technical abilities that need to be accomplished in order to play occasionally the easiest song. I play both the Piano and Violin, and both have been enjoyable instruments to play, yet hard work. An insttrument might seem easy to play, but as you progress you will find it gets harder and harder, what with virtuoso composers and the discovery of Dynamics (p, mf, sfz, etc) and Articulation (Staccato, Slurs, Accents, etc). Starting off on the Piano I learnt pieces composed by such people as von Beethoven and Heller that I thought were simple. I thought that I had learnt them perfectly, but I was completely wrong. I had included only some Dynamics and Articulation, that by the time I had finished playing the pieces with all mistakes corrected, I found the pieces still hard. My point is that all instruments should be rated of equal difficulty. Never, ever underestimate the difficulty of an instrument you have no idea on how to play.

i play the violin,cello,bass,guitar,piano.flute,trumpet,all saxes, recorder,clarinet,piccalo, trombone,drums,cymbals,harp,and that all.....none of them are hard at all and im only 11
