french horn, and every good musician will agree with that.
ambrochure is hard, you have to keep your lips still and move then as little as you can or not move at all and all matters is the air, support and the effort you give, every little missing in the air will be as bold as a tree in a field and there is as much effort to put in every sound than any other symphony isntrument, and the variaty of notes is infinite. i think its the closest instrument to the human voice.

if you think piano is easy, your COMPLETELY wrong- you have the keys in frotn of you, you have a limit of special effects and you dont really have to pur effort in it exept moving your fingers.
violin ill conclude as a bit moderate, not so hard at all, i played it, getting the hang of it is farly easy and everything comes naturally after enough training.
all bagpipes and stuff even thought you think uts hard, its not and the one who made it ment it to be fairly easy. works as a piano, you have keys in front of you, you dont have any special effect(almost) and all you need is puttting your fingers at the right place.
now, i think that the hardest to learn and master is french horn, and thats what most musicians will agree with... why?! you want to know? start playing french horn with a porper teacher and you will understand. all other brasses like trumpet and tuba are easy and not much effort of getting high/low sounds...

The bassoon is really quite hard. It`s hard to get the embouchere(sp) right and it`s in bass clef (well i`m not good at bass clef)

ok let me just say to all the people that think flute is the hardest. It`s not!!!!!!!!!!!!! Flute is definatly the eaisest i have only been playing for 7 months and i just auditioned for my high school band and i made it. there were 70 people auditioning for flute and I didn`t think i iwould make it. only 30 are allowed in the whole band. and i am now one of them. all of the other flute players have been playing for years. FLute is definatly the eaisest

all instruments are even in their level. but the hardest to learn master and control is probably the french horn.
It can play all different tones- rich and mellow, slow and boaring or strong and firm sound. it has the largest range of notes compare to any hard instrument. as someone said- the closest to the human voice.
i dont play the horn. i was, but it was too hard. i have a friend that plays it thought. he plays it very good, well, god chose him as you say...

I also read somewhere that the bassoon has the closest sound to the human voice.

And, it has a bit less than 30 keys... versus 3 valves on the horn

Greetings all!

I play several instruments, so I figure I might as well
toss some fish in the kettle of opinion. I feel strongly
that the hardest instrument really depends on the person;
each family (keyboard, string, woodwind, brass, etc.) has
members which are considered difficult within it, so the
key point beyond that is one`s natural propensity for any
given family. For example, person X is good at brass and
bad at woodwinds, and so thinks that oboe is harder than
French Horn, while person Y may be the opposite.

Another factor is determining what one means by the term
"hardest instrument." In my opinion there are three common
conceptions of this:
1> "What instrument requires the most effort to produce a
good sound on a given note?" (The Horn is definantly up there.)
2> "What instrument has the most complicated music?" (The bass guitar is definantly not...)
3> "Combining one and two, what is the hardest?" (For sure the triangle, )

I tend to think of things in terms of #1, and of #2&3 as being something seperate; a totally different catagory.

That said, these are the intruments I play, rated in order
from hardest to easiest (for me):
F Horn
Violin
Nose Flute
Fife
German Zither
Viola
Clarinet
String Bass
Electric Cello
Mandolin
Banjo
Guitar
Trombone
Trumpet
Euphonium
Harp
Tuba
Bass guitar
Ukulele
Recorder
Tin Whistle
Auto-harp
Piano

The main factors I used were:
1> Getting a good tone, mixed with
2> controling the pitch well enough to play some scales.

Drums and voice are very hard to classify;
both are hard for me, but they`re so different that
I can`t really put them in the list. If you`re a good
singer then voice is easy, and if you`re coordinated then
drums are easy; relatively speaking. (Of course I am not
implying that singers and drummers never need to practice,
I just meant in terms of beginning.)

Tehehe, this is indead a fascinating thread.

Oh ya, I don`t play the oboe, but I`d guess it`s pretty
hard because in H.S. band this one really good clarinet player
switched, and she sounded terrible for a long time. };->

Much love,
-Jonny

wow, you play a lot of instruments... might i suggest the oboe or the bassoon. they`re both quite hard. i think you`re a person that would love a challenge.

and i agree with how someone might be better at brass and someone might be better at woodwinds.

personally i find woodwinds the easiest. you know what i find hard? the piano! HAHAHA.. i can`t see myself playnig more than one note at a time! it looks so hard to do well! (well, i`ve tried before, but it`s so hard for me)

about the basoon- less than 30 keys makes it easier, much less limit, and its much easier to control. people say that orchestra with no horns is not an orcharstra, they dont say it about the basoon, it has a big limit of special effects and its not close to human voice, your imagination.
and second, you dont really play all these instruments, but the order is quite orginized, ppl dont show off and lie about how many instruments you play, we werent born yesterday...

Whats the difference between a bull and an orchestra?
the bull has the horns in the front and the ass in the back!

I play Violin, piano, and flute. I would say that the flute was easiest for me to start playing but is hard to master. The piano was my first instrument to play and was a wonderful ground pad as I know all the keys and that helps a lot. The violin is definatly my favourite instument. I love it... but I have a long way to go before I master it. I taught myself all the instuments that I know and may have developed bad habits but I will never back down about playing them. Music is my passion, has been since I was about 8 years old.

"you dont really play all these instruments" ... "ppl dont show off and lie about how many instruments you play"

It wasn`t a lie; I play those. If I was making things up, I`m sure I would have included double reeds, the flute, and the saxophones.

Lots of band directors for high schools play at least that many instruments, so it shouldn`t really be that hard to believe that I do. Not that I`m a band director; I`ve just had a lot of free time on my hands growing up, and some VERY supportive parents.

The primary thing to remember anyway is the criterion I set;
a good tone and some scales. This was implied, so I do apologize for not saying it flat out. Oh man! I do wanna
eventually learn the other instruments... stupid $$$. };->
(Or rather lack there of.)

"Whats the difference between a bull and an orchestra?
the bull has the horns in the front and the ass in the back!"

THIS, however, is VERY true. };->
Hahaha, I love the Horn: I really must get my lips back in shape.

lol.

Much love,
Jonny

Hahaha, that`s awesome!

lol.

Oh ya! The accordion! How could I forget? I`d say that for me it`s about as hard as the tuba.

My sister has an accordion, and she gets back from Australia tomorrow! Yay!

Rockin` out as often as possible,
