Yep. My teacher even taught me how to do vibrato in my 5th month. Ewan ko nga kung pano ko nga nagawa e. Coz when i was first starting out, i practiced 4-5 hrs. Maybe coz of the support of my family. You? how about your progress? How long have u been playing? What book are you in now? Do u use other books?

uh..i`m close to a year learning the violin and i hafta say i only took it seriously the last 2 months after seein this 8 yr old kid do kreisler`s preludium allegro. here`s the video
(the whole violinmasterclass.com site really got me motivated ^^,)

book 4 after 6 months..that`s really -phenomenal, i think kudos! ..i`m finishing book 2 ^^U ..my teachers require their students to memorize the suzukirepertoire..even the wolfhart etudes (but i`m gradually gettin the hang of it)..i think i`m gonna start with sevcik next week too.

how old is your teacher, and is he a member of any orchestra? i admire his technique of learning scales by ear..! (read about it on another thread)..if i was his student i would`ve cried my eyes out in frustration(hehehe!)..but anyhoo, i`ve been relieved of the tape marks on the fingerboard this past lesson luckily my intonation went just fine (sigh)

So, nabasa mo ung post ko dun sa isa? Yup, malupit ng kaunti ung teacher ko e... I think he was in San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra.. well, dapat maintindihan ka ng family mo! Pero ako i practiced inside my room kaya isolated ako... Ah! one thing that helped me. Klasmeyt ko, he studies in PPO MusicSchool sa CCP. Talgang it pays to have a practice buddy. Oh atsaka i play in Churches. kaya habanng nasa school ako, i can pratice.

I dont use a metronome. (Suprising?) I use my foot. hmmm.. as you say, 5 mins. of vibrato makes your arm tired? What kind of vibrato do use? I use a forearm and wrist combination. AND and and and, always remember NOT to choke the neck of the violin in vibrato. ALWAYS keep your whole arm relaxed. .(Thats why my teacher stressed in keeping my left shoulder strong.) Dont make your arm stiff. BE FLEXIBLE. Use vibrato sparingly. Do not press your finger hard in doing vibrato. While not practicing violin, you can do vibrato in your arm. Although you may look stupid,(i did) it really helps. Hope it helps.

I have violins made by Zhang Shu Mei (world`s 29th Violin Master Maker certified by AMATI Foundation) & the other Violins I have came from California,USA. It was intended for sale to my Korean friend for Korea but you can ask me for availabilty & appointments if you like to try them. The spruce is aged for 15-20 years way better in the locally made ones which are only dried for less than 5 years. My da is portuguese-american and isa great sculptor & makes Violin too for collaboration with other fine instruments makers in Skokie, USA.
