Hello. I need advice about lesson prices. I'm a begginer and I'm paying $60 a lesson. Am I getting ripped off???

Depends. How long is your lesson? What kind of qualifications does you teacher have? I paid 50/60 a lesson for an hour a week with the concertmistress of a high-ranked symphany, and after I moved, I'm paying 30 an hour for lessons with someone who didn't get into a similar symphany. But a lot depends on where you live as well. Big city, you're going to expect to pay more for the same quality you'd get in a smaller city.

It depends on how good the teacher is and how long the sessions are. In a music store that I know of it's 25 dollers per every half hour.

Ok, its $60/hr, he's a concert violinist and its a small town. I guess what I really want to know is, since i'm a beginner, do I really need someone that qualified just to learn the basics? OR is it better that I learn from someone with lots of experience?

I pay $20 per half hour, I think that's the going rate around here (Detroit area). My teacher's husband was the old concertmaster at the Detroit Symphony, before he retired many years ago, and she was his student back in the day. They're both very good & I'm happy!

Well, i'm a flutist..but, it depends how much effort you'll put and if you're willing to take lessons seriously..(if it's going to cost A LOT.) A person who is willing to pay $60 for one hour..must be REALLY serous about music and wants to be in the top. HEY, i pay $18 dollars for half hour but that heLPED ME SOOOOO MUCH...and my teacher is well known and talented..
my brother plays violin and he pays $25 for half an hour..
