I find that its not so hard if you play by suzuki method.. I loved that.. But Of course like everything gets harder now it is getting kinda tuff but I love the violin... its a ton of fun.

NOT ebay, lol...unless u live nearby the person who sells it and can listen to it before u buy it, definately not. half the time the really cheap ones that say they are set up and ready to play, ARENT and it costs more to fix them and adjust and make them playable, and even then it probably isnt worth it. look in the newspaper or on the net for some strings shops near u, the best way is to have a look whats around, decide how much you want to spend, and ask someone who works at the shop what they would recommend at the price you want. usually you can get decent violins with a bow and case for a few hundred dollars..you probly wouldnt want to spend much more on your first instrument, as cheaper instruments generally dont increase in value as there are always newer ones being brought out that are just as good. when looking at violins, have a go and get someone to play it for you so you can decide if you like the tone or not-if u dont like it, u arent goin to want to play it, and without practise you wont progress...happy searching!!

My beginner friend bought a violin called Josef lazar violin outfit from anice violin site that he came across. The link for that is http://www.violinwizard.com/violin_buying.html . He also tried anothet one called strunal and it was a more superior violin but around 100$ more. His teacher told him that violin is worth at least 300$.
If you can spend around 500$ or more it would be good to visit some retailers/shops and try couple of them before you buy.
best of luck!
