We have a violin with the label Josef Klotz in Mittenwald an der Iser Anno 1741(4?). My dad always said it was a copy - the label suggests otherwise. Also the back is single piece - not double.
Can anyone help shed some light on this. Either way, what is the approx value? My son's taking it to Uni and it needs insurance!
Thanks for any help,
Chris

Josef Klotz was born in 1743 in Mittenwald. He must have been quite a good luthier for a 1 year old. Check the numbers. Does it have the Klotz branding in the heel? Honestly it's most likely a copy. Hate to shatter your hopes...
