My current violin is around $550 and it was a violin outfit (bow & case included) purchased from Sam Ash.

Now I want to upgrade it to a good intermediate violin that I won't have to keep replacing with a better violin.
So my question is.. Which website violin store and specifically which violin on the site would you reccomend?
(Price range: $700-$1000)

I TRIED Sharmusic already but apparently that didn't work out so I registered to 8notes to ask for help.

I got an $800 violin http://sharmusic.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=GV3244 but my violin teacher said its tone quality was harsh, overly bright and the tone quality seems like its worth only about $400-500. Plus I was also a bit disappointed by its aesthetics.

I found 2 on Sharmusic that are a little over my price range but if anyone can tell me if they're good or not, I will consider them.

I personally wouldn't buy any instrument online as you may like the sound of one istrument over the sound of another.. regardless of how good the instrument is.. but if you do not have any music stores around i guess you might not have a choice.

Those instruments look pretty decent, but its really hard to tell how the quality is without seeing and playing them in person. Some things to look for in a quality instrument is flaming on the back/all of the instrument (the "stripes" and whatnot), some grain on the wood, a one piece back (though a 2 piece back is not bad either)

I have an Andreas Eastman vL305 and I love it. I bought it for about $1,500 (new about 2-3 years ago) but Ive seen them online for around $1000

The idea that used violins go up in value is not strictly accurate. That only happens over a very long period of time. Sell a current model used, and you will certainly get less for it than you paid, unless you have waited many years, and even then the real value of the violin will be lower.
