Im a suzuki student and when i started i couldnt read any music. it has the music written down and then above the notes the finger has a number, kind of like guitar tab. it helped me a lot and by the end of the first book you will get better at reading music. suzuki is about technique more then music though...

i would go for the suzuki method books. they come with an audio cd, and they build a very stong foundation. That way even if you dont want to play cloassical, (i.e. you like bluegrass, scottish, romanian, etc) you have a very good tone quality and proper technique.
