Hello. I am hoping to find a particular old German copy Stainer violin. These are generally not that well regarded, but a friend has one that sounds very good for certain kinds of fiddle music. I am hoping to find one that was made by the same workshop/factory, probably around 1880. This particular Stainer copy has a label inside with the date 1665, and it has a brand or stamp on the back that is a bit unusual: "STAINER" in all caps, but the "S" is larger in size. All the letters are in a straight line on the bottom. In addition, the f-holes are a bit unusual: The nicks in the f-holes are practically across from each other, rather than than at an angle. The violin has dramatic shading, with lighter semi circular areas on all four bouts of the top, and a wedge shaped light area coming wide from the bottom of the back. I know these are common violins, but some of them do have a unique sound. You can email me with details: jacomoto@cox.net I noted that in an earlier thread a certain "van" and another member had Stainers with this date on the label. Thanks for any contact.
