Hi all, I've recently restarted playing (and teaching) after letting my violin collect dust about 3 years. Well now my A string will not tune! The peg will simply not stick in the correct position. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get it to stick so I can play?

Try pushing the pegs in as you turn them. If that doesn't work, get some peg paste.

First of all, make sure that you clean your violin very well...
You really need to change the strings if you haven't yet, since you've let it sit all that time..it probably got a lot of temp. changes and got really humid...i'm sure...
If that still doesn't work, you should take a minor amount of chalk and rub that in your hands and on the pegs...it will make it rugged...
then try to push the peg in while you tune...it helps...(I quit once too...went through same thing)
NO WORRIES!

If you dont want to buy peg paste, ordinary chalk works just as well. sidewalk chalk works well too. And for sticky pegs, instead of peg dope you can just use a pencil to color over the sticky peg parts. Same technique for the slippy pegs.

this is a tried and true technique!!!
