Okay I have a 6 string violin and its brand new and yeah I was kinda just wondering how long it took people to get used to the bow? I seem to be having serious issues just playing individual strings? Is this normal? How long does it take to learn? Any advice? Thanks much people.

It does seem to be an oddity!! But I am odd too. Last string is F. The last 2 strings are viola. (C and F) thanks though :D

yeah it is pretty hard at the start. its all about your elbow movements. move your elbow go to a lower sounding string. towards the f one. move it down go to a higher string. its just practice

The viola doesn't have an F string.

Crap the dude at the violin store told me it did! Well the F string sounds like crap anyway maybe I'll just take it off.

You could have a bridge with insufficent curvature. A five string violin is muxch harder to play than a four string, so presumably a six string is harder still. The strings will be closer together which means you will have to be a lot more accurate. Frankly, it probably wasn't a wise buy for a beginner.

Strange.

The viola's strings (lowest-to-highest) are C, G, D, and A. The viola's G, D, and A strings (the top three) are the same pitches as the violin's G, D, and A strings (the bottom three). In other words, the viola is tuned a perfect fifth lower than a violin.

lol okay thanks people, I was wondering about the insufficent curvation too, cuz it doesn't seem like its any more curved than a 4 string...

Let's see: If the bridge is insufficiently curved it becomes difficult to bow individual strings. What if the bow is too curved? In that case I suppose it might be difficult to avoid bowing the body of the instrument. There may not be much room to maneuver here--between scylla and charydis, a rock and a whirlpool.
