So, here goes another one of those people who say they wana learn the violin (points at self), but then 1.5 weeks later, they realize they are too busy. Gotta million things to do! I am still skeptical about just how far I will take this? Will inspiration and desire perservere, or will my endurance fail me? But one thing I know for sure is my heart becomes so soft when I hear the violin man! I wana learn! I've always loved how it sounds, and I think it has so much potential. I feel it is so underused in different genres. I mean, you do see it, electric, fiddlers, classics, blah blah, but not typically. That's good I suppose, I couldn't deal with a melted heart mainstream!

What I'm mainly worried about is my age. I'm 25, think that's too old? Are my bones already molded? I mean, imagine playing at 4? Your whole infrastructure molds into the bow man. Your brain is wired to be one with whatever it is you do most.

i think you should give the violin a try if you really love it...that's what i did.i did not start at an early age myself(i just started a few months ago and i can see my effort pay off).i'm not 25 or anything--i'm 14.before i had lessons i was also wondering if i'm too old to start but still i went for it and i'm totally loving it.

i don't think the age really matters, its the perserverance, sure you can make a little kid learn and they learn faster, but you can learn the same, and you do it under your own will power which will make you want to do your best. i think give it a go, that way you can't regret not doing it. i wasn't as madly-in-love-wanting-to-play as you where when i went to my first lesson (the music teacher at my school actually found me one day and said "why aren't you at your lesson, your teachers waiting! i had no idea i was signed up, so there you go, mum got a shock when i brought a violin home anyway!) and certainly try playing different genres, though learn classical, its easier to get a better posture and then play relaxed stuff like fiddle, then get a crappy posture and try and play some classical! there is some good classical (and fiddle!) out there!
don't worry about others, give it a go, its all you can really do.

you cannot say "I can't do it" until you have tried and failed. then you should try again.

The only things I think you need to have is a passion for it and confidence and just have fun

I started at 13 and i don think i'm too old to start that time. I can't find the time to practice at the beginning too. But i eventually arranged the time and i love it now! Just keep finding spare times to practice, you'll get hooked to it and can't wait to touch a violin when you have nothing to do!

I don't think age matters at all. I've been longing to play the violin since I was young. (I had a lesson when I was young, but then my parents thought the instrument cost too much/was too delicate/etc. so they said no.)
Now I'm twenty one, I've done two lessons, and I've completed Suzuki book one. It's all about determination and PRACTICE! (It's so much easier than the piano, which was what I played before...)

I am sure that if you have a bit of patience and passion, you can definitely be a violinist I started playing the violin when i was... 7? and now im 17... so yes i've been playing for 10 years I have completed up to grade 8 on the violin, and i can assure you, that to actually "play" the violin, takes a lot of time, care and love i mean, i know a lot of people who learn the violin, not because they want to, but their parents force them to. So i think if you love the violin, you should definitely try it If you are busy, then tell your teacher that you cant have weekly lesson, and perhaps have fornightly lessons, so that way you will not be wasting your money and it will give you more time to practice

I totally agree... I love hearing the violin. I myself do not play an instrument, but my son asked to play the violin 2 years ago. I have to say I'm surprised at how well he picked it up (he was 11 at the time), even though it was only taught in a classroom environment twice a week for an hour.

I believe that if you are really, truly interested you can do anything. My father (during his midlife crisis) decided to take guitar lessons - never played before in his life. So I don't think age is an issue at all.

If you have a love for it - go for it!

I must agree that age doesn't really matter. Adult learners are often quite disciplined and a steeley determination also helps!! When I invited a violin into my life, I found that it became an integral part of it. I always manage to fit practise in every day, the fear of turning up to a lesson after a week of shoddy practise isn't worth it!! A violin wants to be played, I find that if I keep it somewhere visible, I'll play for an hour instead of watching rubbish T.V.! Anything really worth doing isn't easy. Good luck!!!

I am 26 and I began lessons 1 year and a half ago. I find time to study and believe me it s very hard to even find one hour. It s all about how much you want it.

I find it hard to get time to practise - I'll have even less this September when I start college as well! - but you don't have to practise every single day.

Don't pressure yourself to reach certain milestones by a certain time. There's no rush to become 'good', so just take it as it comes and have fun

Go ahead and try it. I'm also a very occupied person, I was in the same spot as you are, so I bought one on e-bay not too expensive just in case I regret it. Was a good choice!!! I play for only like half an hour or 45mins like 3 times in a week, depends on work / collage and other stuff but with only that little time I have self thought myself with books and websites, and I'm able to play some rookie songs already pretty well. I'm still very newbie but If you love the sound of violin like I do. Buy one! I really love this instrument. Take care
