Hi, I was wondering how to clean the fingerboard of (presumably) rosin gunk that has built up over the years. Is water or some other simple solution effective? Hopefully I won't have to buy a special solution. Thanks in advance!

i would be very careful using anything on the violin, even water. damp can make wood swell, though ebony is quite hard, so might not swell too much. try your best with a dry cloth, and then a very slightly damp cloth i think. just go at it gently. wiping your violin down regularly is sometimes a good idea, and though they aren't very common an old cloth nappy (clean obvioulsy) is a really nice soft cloth to use.
