Dont know if this has ever been asked, but is it possible to learn to play the violin if you have large hands?

I been wanted to take up playing the violin for years, but do you think it is possible?

I don't think it would matter much, you might just have to pay special attention to finger placement of your left hand. I don't think it would be much of a problem, especially if you have played an other string instrument and are comfortable with position. Unless you have extremely BIG hands...?
In any case good luck!

I think you could play, maybe instead of violin you could play viola? the spacingfor the fingering is a little further apart. If you were to play though you would have to be careful about your fingering, and try not to put your fingers down independently of each other too often, as this leads to being out of tune. otherwise i would say it would be just a matter of practice like everyone else has too, but try out both the violin and viola at a music shop and see which one feels more comfortable. if you are tall, the viola may suite you better anyway, and it sounds as good as the violin.

Good on ya! give it a go and see how you feel about it, don't listen to what people have to say about not being able to play!

I have wide fingers too and have been commented as such by both my violin teachers- I felt self concious(sp) about it to begin with- but i guess they were jus stating facts...lol... anyhow- i find myself playing more so on sides/tips of fingers and it works out great!!
