I havent been playing violin much. A little over this last year. Anywho, I had an older violin i got from my grandparents. Just decided to learn while my wife learns how to play viola. The bow that was with the violin was broke so bought a used one. The rosin doesnt really stay on it well (the part by the frog is black and sounds real scratchy no matter how much or little rosin is put on it). So now I'm looking to get a new bow. Nothing fancy, just something to practice with. Probably 50-100 dollar range. Not sure what the most reputable violin manufacturers are. Thanks

I have only been playing for a year but I would recommend the bow I use. It is made by Hidersine, who are more famous for making Rosin. They branched out to bows and later violins. I am in Scotland so can only get quotes in British Pounds, I found one at £23.00. I don't know where you live but that is about $35 or 26 euros.

the black part near the frog probably means your bow only needs a rehair. if its a good bow i would keep it and just get a rehair but if its a cheap one a new bow for cheap costs as much as a rehair.
