I have been playing the violin only a couple of months but have caught on pretty quickly. I have a very new beginner violin that has lots of problems such as the tuning pegs and a rattling noise (screw lose somewhere) I was thinking about getting a nice intermediate violin for under $300. I know it`s a tight budget but I also go horseback riding which is expensive too. Could anyone reccomend any brands that i could maybe uy from e-bay or types of violins or websites. Anything would help. Thanks a lot.

Could the rattling noise be a loose soundpost?
If the soundpost is down & rattling around inside, best not to play the old violin at all because there`s a risk of damage to it.
Ditto Liz`s suggestion, I love my Gliga!

about the rattling noise...sometimes if you have a cheaper instrument (like me) it tends to rattle more. One problem could be that the little plastic thingys on the strings by the fine tuners could be hitting the strings and vibrating. I know you want to buy a new one, but I thought this might help for the time being :D But then if it`s not that, I would go with what Martin Milner said ^___^

Yes, good point, do check the adjusters, they can rattle like anything if they`re loose.

.....I have a very new beginner violin that has lots of problems such as......................
-You don`t want a Violin or any other instrument like that for that matter. When you have a bad sounding instrument, it gets you into thinking that you are the one sounding bad. The bad sounding instrument can also cover up some of the mistakes that you make, making it harder for you to play better.
-Oh and cheap stringed instrument are usually made with all pine wood sides and cheap varnish which can also make it sound bad. The thin sides and back side doesn`t really matter that much for what wood it is made out of, but what ever you do, don`t buy a violin that has a pine front(where the f-holes are) which is the type you probably have now. A spruce wood front is pretty good.

Well, I was shopping around for a new instrument too, I`ve really grown out of the one i own. I`m concertmaster now at my high school, and i need a better sound, even though the one i have is really good, I grew out of it in like the 9th grade. So, I`m looking at this violin which runs about 600.. take a look and tell me what you think!

I think we`ve had discussions on this before. Or, certainly similar. You don`t, generally get genuine savings like that.
Talk to Steve at Gianna about your $600

I`d be unhappy about making any comment about a violin where the two pictures given are obviously not of the same violin... if the back view is the correct violin then i know what it is (and you could get a much better deal than that), if the side view is correct then i have no idea. You could mail and ask them which view is accurate and ask them for a front view which is missing.
