Hi, my name is Maxine and I`m a first chair violinist in my Middle School Orchestra.I`m a great player but I don`t know how to do Vibrato. The only thing I know about Vibrato is that you wiggle your fingers on the finger board. Every time I try to do it, it never works for me. If you could please help me out on this and show me, I`ll be a happy player.
Please e-mail at maximarticutie@cs.com
Or call me at 720-872-6226 (ask for Maxine Brumer)
Just in case your wondering, I`m 12 and a half and I go to Huron Middle School.

What are you looking for? Vineyard and the likes? Why donīt you just play the stuff thatīs available for guitar and improvise...? Let the Spirit lead you. I have played recorder like that for a while... Apart from playing guitar and accordeon I have started violin some months ago (without a teacher) and donīt find it all that difficult. I play mainly by ear and use sheetmusic only for reference or if I canīt figure out the tune at all...

I play the cello and am quite good at it but when I started to play the violin I obviously put too much pressure on the bow. I have noticed that if someone trying to play the violin that already playes the Bass or cello, then they will obviously put too much pressure on the bow. Other people that put a lot of pressure on the violin with the bow well needs to put a lot less pressure on it to put out better sound. Rozin also needs to be put on the bow. And another thing, plastic bows and warped bows are crap. A violin player needs to get a good straight, wooden bow, with good horse hair.

rebecca gribble,
Get a new teacher like I`ve said over and over again, "teachers are suppose to teach and if she doesn`t teach and correct you mistakes, then she`s not a teacher", in other words THROW OUT YOUR SO CALLED TEACHER!!!!! One more thing, there is free sheet music on this web site!
Eva,
If you teach yourself and no one helps you, then how do you tune your instrument and find where the notes are because each instrument is different and sometimes completely different. I`m guessing you tune your violin from your accordion keys, am I correct? Everyone can play music by ear, but sheet music gives out the tune, rhythm and beat perfectly with the help of a metronome of course.

sean,
grin, tuning by the akkordeon keys??? Howīs that supposed to work? No, I use whatever I feel like at the time: my keyboard, a tuning whistle for violin or a a violin tuner... finding the notes- well you either hear them or you donīt. I play along CDs, I read sheet music when I need to and otherwise I just play...

Umm....Marcus..I get ticked of like hell when people reply stuff like this. Your not a pro. What you have is experience. That`s all. Professionality is the mastery of something. (Mastery of The 24 Caprices, at first try, can be considered professional. )

(Given that the instrument both sound equally good). Quality-wise, is it better to have thin flaming or thick?

Hi Marcus,
I used to play violin as a teenager, then gave up.
I am now 48 and just started again. I think I need some help!
I sound squeeky now no matter what I do.
I am wondering if this is because I brought a cheap fiddle to get going with. I can not find a bowing fault. I have resined my bow endlessly etc.
I can remember a piece my nan taught me of which I lost the sheet music 36 years ago. Play it perfectly except for the sqeeks!!! I can remember all my scales etc.
I practise about 1 hour min a day.
I brought some new music which I have never played before and am sight reading it. Slow parts I find a doddle but as it speeds up I get in a tizzy!!!! I also find that if I have never heard a tune I have trouble playing it first off. Once I hear a tune I normaly then have no problem with it. I apparently have a wonderfull ear for music, but I do also play keyboard and trumpet anyway.
I can no longer play any vibrato either, It is as if my wrist has seized up, but I have got MS, so that may not help.
What tips or help could you give to me if any.
I would be most grateful
Thanks
Jackie
